Como estimular la creatividad?// How to boost creativity?

The creative process CP is a huge challenge for organizations as much as for individuals that are seeking to create new ways, ideas, etc. Some time we tend to think that the environment regulates our capacity of being creative, because we have incredibly creative days when we feel "inspired" for different surrounding situations; tough most if the time, we try to drive the CP from the inside, creating the famous "idea storming". The truth is that in both cases what causes our CP is becoming from our inside, but definitely some environmental variables inspire or restrain it.

The CP must start from a new eyed and fresh look of the sitiations in whch we intend to create changes. A series of expeiments directed to study how creativity is motivated, show that a major experience level leads to a low creativity level, that is, the highest our level of control of a situation, the less creative we tend o be because the intelectual processes requiered to do the task become automatic, and that limits our mind to look for new ways. In the other hand, when we are unexperienced, or simly have no control over the situation, is our creativity the one that helps us come out of the situation with success, given that we see the situations with broader roads and options.Experience is what delimits options, having it makes us rule out ways we know are not viable and we don't even question if they would be. This has a string reason, it minimizes ERROR, and that's a good thing, the vast our experience is the less mistakes we are likely to commit. This is incredibly usefull for highly detailed and accurrate processes, in wich the difference between succes and failure is minimal. In this cases experience is the key to achieve nearly perfect processes, because they end up being automatic. Experience is the training to achieve perfection trough repetition.

Yet so, innovation and the rapid tecnological and human development, requires more and more creativity levels, and mistakes are a fundamental part of the CP and they must be adopted as part of the routine. Benjamin Franklin was familiarized with them in such a way that he said: "I didn't failed the test, I just ound a 100 ways of doing it wrong" and "the man who achieves makes many mistakes, but he never makes the biggest mistake of all: DOING NOTHING". Never undersestimate the power of mistakes, they are undoubtedly in the way of success and part of the CP...and you never know, may be this last mistake is the one leading you to success!

In the same study mentiined before (the experiments that lead us to talk how experience affects our creativity levels), professor Alan Snyder states that in order to boost creativity, insted of activating a part f our brain, we should in fact deactivate one: the left frontal lobe; he proves that in his experiments a high percentage of subjects using, what he calls a "creatiity cap" ( a cap with electrodes terminals that emit pulsations of negative and positive charge that causes to lower the activity of this part of the brain), show a significative increase in their creativity ( proven by solving puzzels that other subjects not using it couldn't solve). This experiment opens up our eyes in the direction of understanding how the "practical and experienced" part of our brain (the left hemisphere) limits us with paradigms, because that is the part of our brain that keeps our "feet on the ground", while the right hemisphere expands us, allowing us to create without limits. As it allways is, balance is the right answer, we can't live in "LA-LA land" , as doctor Jill Boyte calls it in her TED Talk in which she relates her experience of havin a cerebral stroke. Up unil now, epxerience tells us that using 90% of the time our rational brain is not right either, we are missing too much, we live worried, because that part of our brain (the left one) our living experience based on our past, while our right part focuses on our present.

In my coaching experience, the best way of activating our "emotional" brain (right side), and by doing that activate our creativity, is trough steping out of our CONFORT ZONE, because by doing so you chalenge your paradigms, stop having control and force yourself to be present now. You can achieve that with subtle changes, it is really that simple, it's just a matter of pushing yourself into doing things a bit different every day, in this way we will keep focused on the present moment and will reach a balanced appreciation by both hemispheres, of our life experience. You can allways give it a try, there's nothing to lose! Experiment with your life, make changes, embrace your mistakes, and you will gain a lot in the process.

I leave you with a couple of videos about the subjects we covered on the article, thank you fr reading! F you liked it comment, share, twitt...have you ever tried to step out of your confort zone? If not, which would be your first step?

Acciona tu pasion /put your passion into action

A mi me gusta llamarlo : EVOLUCIÓN.

Sometimes life faces us to take decisions, decisions that probably we have been procastinating or just haven't wondered about before. Usually those are very tough moments, so tough that we offten qualify them as bad or "one of the worst times of my life", we say. The truth is that, at the end, once we live passed them, our lives have already taken a different path, without qualifying it as a better or a worse one, i'd like to call it: EVOLUTION.

Not long ago, a close person of mine, shared with me a beautiful revelation: "we all tend to love, beauty and opullence". So, what's wrong?, well this tendency is not by inertia, but is something that we achieve by being conscious, because as some of us know, we spend part of our lives asleep, asleeped by our fears, wich keeps us in the so called: confort zone. Only when we step out of this zone, we find ourselves conciouslly EVOLVING

Grounding all of these to practical stuff, the first step out of the confort zone would be identifying our talent/passion, by doing this we connect to our deep self, our mision in life.

Back to the begining of this conversation, those moments when life makes us take decisions, are usually a boiling point explossion, of our talent being kept and buried for a long time, keeping it from expressing and shining trough us. Those glorious and painfull moments in our life, happen in order to give us the opportunity and face us to question if what we're doing today makes us satisfied, full, happy. That's why those moments are special gifts to look inside our souls and take decisions based in our big and beautiful TALENT.

If you are living such a moment today, join the ride joyfully and explore your passion, that will tell you wich way to o from here. If you haven't entered such a phase, prepare yourself and explore your soul, you dont need to be agressively pushed, do you?
